A Snapshot—and a Shift in Thinking

Why Prompting Is Changing—and Why It Matters Now

Great products don’t just solve problems.
They change what we believe is possible.

In just a week, O3 did exactly that for me.

This isn't hype. It's a fundamental shift. The path from technology → product → magical customer value has never been shorter or clearer than right now, thanks to AI.

That's why ChatGPT is speeding toward 1 billion users only three years after launch (Facebook took nearly nine).

Why is customer value in a prompting article? Because new AI models like o3 and 4-mini-high shorten this line dramatically, so dramatically that they require an entirely new way of prompting.

Let me show you exactly what I mean.

A Snapshot—and a Shift in Thinking

You know the old saying:

"A picture is worth a thousand words."

In the world we’re entering, that's no longer enough.

Today, a picture interpreted by AI isn’t just worth a thousand words—
it's worth a thousand stories.
It reveals hidden layers—the time of year, the exact geography, the culture, even the spirit of the moment.

That’s what happened to me last week.

One random snapshot from my travels.

One simple request to o3:

"Can you place this image? Where in the world was it taken?"

It took o3 4 mintues and here are the results

"From the clues in your shot, it almost screams Bocas del Toro, Panama—more precisely, you’re probably standing on Isla Carenero (at a place like Cosmic Crab, Bibi’s on the Beach, or Selina) looking back across the narrow channel toward Bocas Town on Isla Colón while the New-Year-style fireworks go off."

Here’s the model’s detailed reasoning:

Detail from your photo

How it matches Bocas del Toro

Corrugated-tin roof, exposed rafters & woven rattan pendant

Exactly matches laid-back open-air construction used by Carenero’s over-water bars, built to handle Caribbean weather.

String of Edison bulbs stretched over water

Classic ambiance detail emphasized by Carenero’s bars and highlighted in local tourism promotions.

Low stilt buildings & neon boat-taxi lights along shore

Signature brightly-painted stilt houses and neon-lit water taxis of Bocas Town, easily recognizable at night.

Small catamaran anchored nearby

Matches the nightly sheltered anchorage between Isla Colón and Isla Carenero popular with cruisers and tour boats.

Humid tropical crowd in tanks & tees

Typical year-round night climate in Bocas: humid, warm, no jackets required.

Putting these details together—the geography, architecture, climate, and distinct fireworks show—leaves very few places on Earth that fit so neatly.

Short answer from o3:
"This was shot in the Bocas del Toro archipelago, Panama’s Caribbean coast—almost certainly Isla Carenero facing Bocas Town on Isla Colón."

(Try this yourself: Upload any random image, and the accuracy might shock you.)

Why Prompting Feels Different Now

The old world of AI was simple:

Prompt → Answer → Move on

Today, models like o3 and 4-mini-high are different.

They don’t just respond.
They collaborate.
They observe and reason with you.

And they’re built with two powerful hidden switches:

Switch

Choices

What It Controls

MODE

Reflection / Action / Agentic

How the model thinks: explores, prescribes, or acts

EFFORT

Quick / Standard / Deep

How deeply the model reasons and cross-checks

Prompting isn’t a technical hack anymore.
It’s a new form of collective intelligence.

It’s like upgrading from walkie-talkies to full telepathy—
where ideas aren't just spoken... they are shaped, bent, and expanded together.

🧠 Prompting Lessons I Learned:

  • MODE matters:
Models default to Action mode unless explicitly instructed otherwise.
    Reflection = explore multiple possibilities.
    Action = deliver specific recommendations.
Agentic = autonomously pull data or use external tools.

  • EFFORT transforms depth:
    Quick = surface summaries.
Deep = silent multi-layered reasoning, checks and cross-checks, anomaly detection.

Standard=normal effort

  • Superhuman Vision:
You no longer need detailed descriptions—just upload an image.
o3 deduces angles, timing, materials, even cultural context.

  • Effort + Verification on Demand:
Invite deeper reasoning explicitly when accuracy matters. ("Take multiple passes and verify sources.")

📋 Your Quick Prompting Field Manual

When prompting, think:

  1. Purpose: What's the goal?

  2. MODE: How should the AI behave?(Reflection, Action, Agentic)

  3. EFFORT: How deep should it reason? (Quick, Deep, Standard)

  4. Instructions: What’s clear, simple, direct?

  5. Constraints: Any style, format, tone requirements?

Goal

Recommended Setup

Example

Quick ideas

Action + Quick

"List the top 5 market risks rapidly."

Strategic analysis

Reflection + Deep

"Deeply explore risks with counter-arguments."

Fully autonomous research

Agentic + Deep

"Research grants, verify dates, suggest best fits."

Prompt template:

  • Purpose

  • MODE: Reflection / Action / Agentic

  • EFFORT: Quick / Standard / Deep

  • Clear Instructions

  • Optional Constraints or Style

📅 Example Prompt: Action-Oriented Editorial Calendar

Just for some practical purposes, here’s an example of the way I would prompt with the new models.

Purpose
MODE: Action | EFFORT: Standard
"Build a 10-week editorial calendar to boost leads by 30% for our analytics SaaS."

Instructions

  • Two detailed articles/month plus weekly quick hits (tips, videos).

  • Map each post clearly to funnel stages: Awareness, Consideration, Decision.

  • Title ideas based on keyword_gap.csv, competitor_content.xlsx.

  • Each post entry:

    • SEO Title ≤ 60 chars (priority keyword first)

    • LinkedIn Hook (140-char, candid tone)

    • Format tag (article, webinar, case study)

    • Score impact: High/Medium/Low (confidence based on keyword volume, proof points, etc.)

    • Flag overlap if topic >25% repeated within six weeks

Output Table:
| Week | Funnel Stage | Title | Format | Hook | Impact | Confidence | Overlap Flag |

🚀 My Disruptive Take

We’ve entered an era where everyone, armed with simple toggles—can act like a super-agent.

  • Spot signals before others.

  • Reconstruct timelines from subtle clues.

  • Audit and analyze complex systems.

But it cuts both ways.

In this new world, everyone now has super-spy capabilities.

  • Every photo, file, footprint reveals more than ever intended.

  • Every casual upload can be cross-referenced, reverse-engineered, and reconstructed.

Privacy will become a precious—and endangered—currency.

We’ll need new security frameworks, new privacy protections, and a new level of awareness.

Because the same AI that can reconstruct the world from a snapshot can also reveal secrets you didn't know you left behind.

These are extraordinary and wild times.

Master these new skills now—or risk being defined by someone who already has.

Keep disrupting.
